Is it safe to drive with the check-engine light on?
A steady light means your car has logged a fault. It may not be an emergency, but have it checked soon. A flashing light usually means a severe misfire that can damage the catalytic converter, so stop driving as soon as it’s safe and call us at (613) 938-1404.
Can a loose gas cap turn the check-engine light on?
Yes, it can. A loose or worn cap lets fuel vapour escape, and the emissions system flags it as a leak. Tighten the cap until it clicks. The light may not go out right away, so if it’s still on after a few days of normal driving, have it checked.
Why not just read the code at a parts store?
A code tells you which system reported a problem, not what caused it. The same code can come from a failed part, a bad sensor, a wiring fault or a vacuum leak. Testing finds the actual cause, so you’re not paying for parts that weren’t the problem.
My car won’t start. What should I check?
