Auto Repair FAQs: Hours, Booking, Safety Certificates & Tires

Straight answers to common questions about booking, safety certificates, tires and repairs. Don’t see yours? Call us during shop hours and we’ll talk it through.

Booking & hours

What are your hours?

We’re open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, and closed on Sundays. Hours can change around statutory holidays, so please call (613) 938-1404 before making a special trip.

Where are you located, and do you serve drivers outside Cornwall?

We’re at 17397 South Branch Road in South Stormont, just west of Cornwall’s city limits and a few minutes from Highway 138 and Highway 401. We welcome drivers from Cornwall, St. Andrews West, Long Sault, Ingleside, Martintown, Glen Walter, Newington, Avonmore and across Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. Our Contact page has a map and directions.

How do I book an appointment?

Call us at (613) 938-1404 during shop hours, or send a booking request through our online form. An online request isn’t a confirmed appointment until we call you back to confirm a time.

Do you take walk-ins or same-day repairs?

We’re a busy shop, so booking ahead is the best way to get the time you want. For an urgent problem, like brakes that don’t feel right or a flat tire, call us first and we’ll tell you honestly how soon we can fit you in. We can’t guarantee same-day service.

Safety certificates

Do you do Ontario safety inspections (Safety Standards Certificates)?

Yes. We inspect vehicles for the Ontario Safety Standards Certificate, which you need to transfer a used vehicle to a new owner (unless it’s going to your spouse), register a rebuilt vehicle, register a vehicle brought in from another province, territory or country, or change a vehicle’s status from unfit to fit. Inspection prices aren’t set by the province: each inspection centre sets its own, so call us for our current price and to book.

How long is a safety certificate valid, and will I get a paper copy?

A Safety Standards Certificate is valid for 36 calendar days after the inspection, so time it close to when you’ll register the vehicle. Under Ontario’s DriveON program, certificates are issued digitally: once your vehicle passes and the invoice is paid, the certificate is emailed to you. There’s no paper copy, so give us an email address you check regularly.

What happens if my vehicle doesn’t pass the safety inspection?

You get a written list of the items that didn’t meet the provincial standard, kept separate from any advice that can wait. You can have them repaired, here or elsewhere, and then have the vehicle re-inspected. Ask us about timing and cost for a re-inspection when you book.

How our safety inspections work

Tires

When should I switch to winter tires?

The Tire and Rubber Association of Canada recommends winter tires once temperatures are consistently below 7 °C. In Eastern Ontario that usually arrives in late fall. Changeover season fills up fast, so call early to book. Ontario auto insurers must also offer a winter tire discount, so ask your insurer whether you qualify.

Can you fix my flat tire?

Often, yes. Whether a tire can be safely repaired depends on where the puncture is and how big it is; sidewall damage usually means the tire needs replacing. Call or bring it in and we’ll inspect it and explain your options.

Repairs & estimates

My check engine light is on. Is it safe to drive?

A steady light means your vehicle has logged a fault. It may not be an emergency, but have it checked soon. A flashing light usually signals a serious misfire that can damage expensive parts such as the catalytic converter, so drive as little as possible and call us right away. We’ll scan the codes and explain what we find before recommending any repair.

Will I get an estimate before you start work?

Yes. You get an estimate and approve it before we start, and you can ask for it in writing. Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act also protects you: the final bill for a repair can’t go more than 10% over an accepted written estimate, and any extra work needs your approval first. If you have questions about a quote, just ask.

Do you offer a warranty on repairs?

Coverage depends on the job and the parts used. Ask us about coverage on the parts and work for your repair when you get your estimate, and keep your invoice for your records.

Still have a question?

Call us. We’ll give you a straight answer.
